A lovely morning, sunshine and blue sky. After brunch we drove to the beautiful hamlet of Haraldsby. We went to the church but unfortunately it was locked. After taking a few photographs we headed north to the island of Geta and a place with the rather welcoming name of Hallo. There is a small ferry boat moored at the jetty.I had one of my "moments" here. Sitting alone by the waters edge I was overcome with an overwhelming sense of tranquility. No noise,but the gentle lapping of water on the shore, the whispering breeze through the rushes and the melodic call of songbirds. A treasured moment. Later we travelled to the northernmost point on the island, a place called HavsVidden. Here, looking out over the Gulf of Bothnia, Sweden is to the west and Finland to the east. To the south is the Baltic Sea and Europe. I met a chap who was mooring his boat, he lives just up the road where he grows apples for export to Finland. Apples seem to be the main crop on the islands as we see apple orchards everywhere. After heading south we stopped at a lookout point near Godby. From the top of the tower, about thirty metres high, the view was spectacular. We are now driving to Hummelvik on the island of Vardo, where tomorrow we will
take the ferry to Kumlinge.
